About Josh
Meet Josh
My name is Joshua (Josh) Styles, and I currently serve as an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice & Legal Studies / Christian Studies at North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina. I graduated from North Greenville in 2005 with a B.A. in Christian Studies, and I earned an M.A. in Christian Ethics from Southeastern Seminary (Wake Forest, NC) in 2008. After graduating seminary, I worked for the Raleigh Police Department for a little over a year before attending the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill. I received my J.D. in May 2012, and my family and I moved back to Greenville, South Carolina, the following summer. I am married to the most beautiful and godly woman on the face of the earth (we met at North Greenville), and I am the dad of three amazing daughters. Most importantly, I am by God’s grace a follower of Jesus; I was dead in my sins, but God has made me alive through Jesus Christ (See Ephesians 2:1-10).
The documents linked below provide more information about my educational background, professional accomplishments, and philosophy of education. The pictures highlight the greatest joys of my life: my beautiful bride and three precious girls. About This Site (below the pictures) provides a guide to this website’s sections, including an explanation of how this site differs from most personal websites. Finally, the About Page of my Substack explains why I write and what motivates me to search for the truth.
If you have questions about the site or would like to reach out to me, please send me an email at josh@joshuajstyles.com. My sincere hope is that the content of this site will help you follow the evidence in order to find the truth. More than that, I pray that once we learn the truth, we will have wisdom and grace to live in accordance with the truth and to help others do the same.
To the glory of God alone and for the sake of justice and truth,
Josh
About This Site
Finding the Evidence
The first section, Finding the Evidence, is divided into four subsections: Real Journalism, Important Thinkers, Must-Read Books, and Alternative Media.
This page provides links to some of the best and most honest investigative journalists alive today. These men and women are not beholden to corporate interests and are not captive to prevailing narratives; to the contrary, they carefully investigate facts and evidence in order to report the truth.
This page links to the work of ten individuals who have contributed much to the search for truth; moreover, these individuals have displayed a continual willingness to respectfully dialogue with others, including those with whom they disagree. The articles, lectures, and conversations I’ve linked on this page are some of the best examples of genuine dialogue and reasoned debate I’ve ever encountered.
As the name suggests, this page provides links to books that I believe are immensely helpful. Significantly, I believe these books not only aid in the search for truth but also encourage a love of justice, good, and beauty. I’ve divided this page into multiple categories covering history, philosophy, politics, fiction, and more. I’ve also included a top-twelve list that links to the most important books that have shaped the way I think and that have spurred me to care deeply about the truth.
When once-trusted media sources parrot approved narratives while ignoring facts and evidence, those who value truth must look for it in other places. This page links to a variety of sources that provide different and nuanced perspectives on the events unfolding in our world.
Engaging the Evidence
The second section, Engaging the Evidence, links to my own efforts at investigating the evidence and examining the facts. This section includes links to many of my publications (papers, articles, and essays) as well as some of my speaking (presentations, discussions, and sermons). This section also links to my Substack newsletter where I regularly post articles on a variety of issues. I entitled my newsletter Less-traveled Roads because of my passion to the follow the evidence wherever it leads, even if the truth conflicts with the prevailing narratives pushed by larger publications and corporate media. Finally, I am in the process of creating a weekly podcast called Hiding the Truth that I hope to begin in late 2022. The aim of Hiding the Truth is to expose the deceitfulness of media narratives and government propaganda by examining the use of language in articles, videos, and other content.

Your Word is Truth
The third section, Your Word is Truth, is reflective of my sincere faith in Jesus Christ. The language comes from John 17:17: “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” Nearly 2000 years ago, the man Jesus said that He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6)—an astonishing claim with breathtaking implications. I am fully aware that many who visit this site are not Christians, and I can understand how my profession of faith may seem at odds with the theme of this site:“Follow the Evidence. Find the Truth.” But as unbelievable as it may seem, the biblical account of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection proves consistent with the historical record and the testimony of hundreds of eyewitnesses. At the very least, the claims of Jesus are worth a fair hearing, because if Jesus is telling the truth, this has enormous significance for us all. For those willing to explore the evidence, I have provided links to several books that investigate the truth of Christianity (and particulalry whether the resurrection really happened). See the books section for more information.
