Resources
Desiring God
Originally founded by John Piper, Desiring God “exists to guide you toward everlasting joy in Jesus Christ.” This website has a tremendous amount of resources including articles, sermons, podcasts, books (as free PDFs!), and much more. I’ve linked to one of Piper’s podcasts on my podcasts page, but readers should also consider another fantastic resource called Look at the Book. While no one will agree with anyone else on every single topic (for example, I disagree with Piper’s position on guns and self-defense), there is probably no other person whose ministry has so deeply shaped my view of God and the world than Piper. I have benefited immensely from his ministry, and I believe the resources available at desiringGod.org will be helpful to many others as well.
Ligonier
Just as Desiring God was born of the ministry of John Piper, Ligonier Ministries was founded by the late R. C. Sproul in 1971. Ligonier.org also hosts an enormous amount of biblically faithful sermons, articles, podcasts, and more. I also linked to one of Sproul’s podcasts on my podcasts page, and several articles from Ligonier have been linked throughout this site. The ministry of Ligonier is worthy of our support, as is their mission statement: “Proclaiming, teaching, and defending the holiness of God in all its fullness to as many people as possible.” I commend these resources for your benefit!
Bible Gateway
Bible Gateway enables readers to view and search scores of Bible translations, including well-known translations (ESV, NASB, NIV, NLT, KJV, etc.) as well as those created for specific audiences, including children (e.g., the International Children’s Bible (ICB), the New International Reader’s Version (NIrV), and more). The site also allows readers to create columns in order to compare multiple translations side by side.
ESV.org
Similar to Bible Gateway, ESV.org allows readers to access the ESV translation online. Where ESV.org (and the corresponding ESV app) is most helpful is in the myriad cross-references that can be easily clicked while one reads, showing how passages relate to other parts of Scripture. The online ESV Study Bible can also be added for a small cost, and those who have purchased a print ESV Study Bible may already have an access code included with their Bibles.
Blue Letter Bible
Blue Letter Bible provides access to multiple translations as well as “powerful tools for an in-depth study of God’s Word through [their] free online reference library, with study tools that are grounded in the historical, conservative Christian faith.” Blue Letter Bible is especially helpful because of its interlinear resources that show the Scriptures in the original languages alongside English translations.
From the site: “The Christian Research Institute exists to provide Christians worldwide with carefully researched information and well-reasoned answers that encourage them in their faith and equip them to intelligently represent it to people influenced by ideas and teachings that assault or undermine biblical Christianity and the essentials of the historic Christian faith.”
From the site: “GotQuestions.org is a ministry of dedicated and trained servants who have a desire to assist others in their understanding of God, Scripture, salvation, and other spiritual topics. We are Christian, Protestant, evangelical, theologically conservative, and non-denominational.”
From the site: “ICR scientists have spent more than 50 years researching scientific evidence that refutes evolutionary philosophy and confirms the Bible’s account of a recent and special creation. . . . [W]e want you to know God’s Word can be trusted with everything it speaks about—from how and why we were made, to how the universe was formed, to how we can know God and receive all He has planned for us.”
From the site: “The CRS advocates the concept of special creation (as opposed to evolution), both of the universe and of the earth with its complexity of living forms. . . . Members of the society include research scientists from various fields of scientific accomplishment who are committed to full belief in the biblical record of creation and early history.”
